A Tale of Two Backpackers

Given up the day jobs; sold everything and taking a late gap year!

About Us

Hi there! We’re Stewart and Emma, two adventurers who’ve decided to embrace the unknown and live life a little lighter—literally and figuratively.

Stewart swapped family law for freedom, and Emma traded her assistant headteacher role (and years of teaching English) for a classroom without walls. Between us, we have six (mostly grown-up) children and three grandchildren.

Travel brought us together—Stewart was in India, Emma was in Galway, and somehow, our paths crossed thanks to a bit of online serendipity. Our fifth date? A three-week adventure through the Baltics. Loved it!

Now, with a pair of 55L backpacks, a few keepsakes stored in our mums’ lofts, and no fixed address, we’re testing the waters of early retirement. We sold the house, the car, and just about everything else to explore the world before age or family call us back.

This blog is where we share our journey—hostel stays, language blunders, lessons learned, and all the highs and lows of life on the road. We’re figuring it out as we go, embracing the unexpected and seeing where this adventure takes us. Thanks for being a part of it too!

Previous Travels

Together, we have visited Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, South Korea, Japan, Santander and Italy – all in 18 months! But here are a few favourite photos of places we’ve been before. His are the best … obviously! I don’t know why but I have always taken selfies to add to a post of places rather than me in the place – so slim pickings!
